Lions Clubs International has approximately 46,000 Lions Clubs in 207 countries around the world. We have 1.35 million members which makes us the world’s largest service club organization.
On July 1, 1976 District A-16 came into existence. Our District has 52 Lions Clubs. Our District has 9 Lioness Clubs. Our District has 2 Leo Clubs. This is our Lions Family.
There are over 1200 participating lions members in District A-16. These individuals are committed to taking an active role in their community through services, friendship, dialogue and civic participation. Our object is to create a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world. With mental health a growing concern for Canadian families, workplaces and neighborhoods, the Lions are taking a leadership role in raising awareness and fighting stigma.
Whenever a Lions clubs get together our community gets better. That’s a result of our Lions’ motto: “WE SERVE”.
District A16 Lions Mental Health Awareness Program
In 2010, initiated by Past Zone Chair Lion Gobind Sharma, District A16 Lions became the first Lions District in the MDA (Multiple District Association) to adopt Mental Health Awareness Program as a District program and set up a Cabinet Committee under the founding Chair Lion Gobind Sharma.
The objective of the MHA committee is to create awareness about Mental Health issues and promote health Wellness in our communities through our lions clubs by organizing various mental health related activities in partnership with other local social service agencies and health service providers.
